In the rushing, crystal-clear streams of the Belluno Dolomites, trout is one of the most fascinating and sought-after species by sport fishermen. The pure, pristine waters of rivers such as the Piave, Cordevole, Mis, and Biois offer an ideal habitat for various trout species, including the brown trout, the marble trout, and the grayling.
- Brown trout (Salmo trutta fario): This native species is particularly prized for its beauty and the challenge it offers anglers. It prefers cold, oxygenated waters, hiding among the rocks and deep holes in the streams.
- Marble trout (Salmo trutta marmoratus): Considered the queen of Alpine waters, the marble trout is a protected species and strictly protected by European legislation. In the Belluno area, it has been genetically monitored as a typical strain, with repopulation efforts carried out by the Provincial Aquaculture Center along the Ard stream.
- Grayling (Thymallus thymallus): An agile and combative fish, the grayling is found in the main valley rivers. Fishing for it requires skill and patience, but offers great satisfaction to enthusiasts.
